Buff and I are enjoying our time in Haiti! I have tried uploading pictures but the internet connection is not good enough to allow that. Today we didn't work at all. We attended church in the country, about a half hour drive away. We had a little pick up with 9 people in the back and 5 in front. It was a wild ride with the roads they have here. I videotaped the ride back just to show how crazy it was. The pastor and his wife had us for dinner after the service, which lasted 2 hrs and 15 minutes.
This afternoon we visited an orphanage in town. It is run by American people and very nice, by Haitian standards. No running water and they use outhouses, but that is typical here. The town we are in, Pignon, does not have electricity. Where we stay, it right next to the hospital, so we do have electricity and toilets that flush. But the tank of water has to be filled each day to supply our bathing and flushing water, so we use very little. We only drink bottled water.
We visited a cemetery this afternoon also. When they bury a body in the family plot, they dig up the oldest body and usually burn it. However you can see bones and skulls all over. We saw the body of a young child and the arm was still sticking out the sleeve, by arm I mean bone.
Many, many stories to share when we return home. We are so very, very blessed. Jesus is a big part of most of the people we've met. They have such great faith. The children's biggest want is to attend school. Not possible for all children due to the cost, $100 per year for young children. Once the children are done with school, most can not afford college.
I will check in the next time I am able to get internet. Hope all is well with you at home.
Ann & Buff
